Walt Kelly and Pogo: Kelly was the creator of the comic strip Pogo, which ran from 1948 to 1975. Pogo Possum, the main character set in the Okefenokee Swamp, became one of the most politically satirical comic strips in American history. The famous "We have met the enemy and he is us" line came from Kelly via Pogo."I Go Pogo": The "Pogo for President" theme was a recurring gag Kelly ran during presidential election years starting in 1952, with the slogan "I Go Pogo" — a play on "I Like Ike." It became a beloved recurring bit through multiple election cycles.
